Job Type

Location         Central London (Bloomsbury)

Hours             35 hours per week; hybrid working option

A fantastic opportunity for a public affairs professional to build experience and exposure across a variety of policy areas in the food and drink industry; this role comes at an exciting time with the appointment of the new UK Government.

You will be part of a busy and fast-moving corporate affairs team, helping to build the FDF’s reputation as the voice of food and drink manufacturing through the delivery of effective public affairs strategies.

FDF has successfully contributed to policy making and legislative development, championing our members’ views on the critical issues of the day. With more than 1,000 members – from the most recognisable global brands to the most innovative start-ups – we represent the largest manufacturing sector in the country.

Key responsibilities

Parliamentary and Stakeholder Engagement

  • You will be assisting in developing and implementing the FDF’s public affairs engagement strategy in Westminster to support advocacy across FDF’s key priorities
  • Building and maintaining productive working relationships with colleagues, member companies, parliamentarians and counterparts in similar organisations
  • Identify opportunities to promote FDF’s positions through active political and parliamentary monitoring
  • Preparing and drafting regular reports and briefings, parliamentary questions
  • Leading the FDF in its role as Secretariat for the All-Party Parliamentary Group for Food and Drink, co-ordinating and supporting meetings, events and activity throughout the year, maintaining the group’s dedicated web page

Political Intelligence

  • Keeping abreast of political and policy developments affecting the sector
  • Compiling a weekly ‘must read’ report for colleagues and members to showcase FDF analysis and insight

Events management

  • Helping to plan and deliver public affairs events, including the annual Parliamentary Reception


  • Educated to degree level or equivalent experience in a relevant discipline
  • Previous political and public affairs experience
  • Able to demonstrate interest in the food and drink sector
  • Excellent knowledge of UK political processes and the policy climate
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • First-rate organisational skills with attention to detail
  • Able to work flexibly, multi-task, prioritise, good time management skills
  • Ability to handle a number of priorities simultaneously
  • Competent in Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, Powerpoint and Outlook
