Herts and Middlesex Wildlife Trust is a local conservation charity working to protect wildlife and help people connect with nature. With a team of volunteers, we care for wild places so that nature has a place to thrive. We help people experience the wildlife on their doorsteps and to take steps to protect it.

We believe that wildlife should be able to thrive alongside our everyday lives and that everyone is better off when they have access to nature. As part of the national federation of 46 Wildlife Trusts, our influence is far-reaching and we play a vital role in standing up for wildlife.

We are committed to creating a community that recognises and truly values individual differences and identities. We actively encourage applications from people of all backgrounds and cultures.

Our staff team is enthusiastic, friendly and committed to wildlife conservation and exemplifies our values of professionalism, valuing contributions by others and continually striving to improve. We offer flexible working as well as other benefits such as salary sacrifice schemes. We are based in the attractive setting of Verulamium Park on the outskirts of St Albans.

About the role

As part of the Business Support team, the Health and Safety Manager will focus on coordinating health and safety across the Trust by providing advice, guidance, support and training for staff and volunteers on all health and safety related matters. The postholder will develop and lead a Health and Safety Strategy for the organisation, keep policy and procedures up to date with legislation and best practice, and encourage a culture of good health and safety practice.

We require someone who has excellent organisational and communication skills, with a friendly approach and great attention to detail, together with an interest in what we do. You must be fully conversant with MS Office and hold (or be working towards achieving) a qualification in Health and Safety such as a NEBOSH certificate or equivalent.
