Deputy General Manager (Project Delivery)

Salary (Grade 6):  £30,350 - £35,500 per annum (dependent upon experience)

Hours: 37.5 hours per week (will involve some weekend working)

 Location: Work across the National Museum of the Royal Navy in Portsmouth Historic Dockyard (PHD), the Royal Navy Submarine Museum and Explosion Museum in Gosport


The National Museum of the Royal Navy looks after some of the most iconic ships and boats in the world, including HMS Victory, HMS Warrior and HMS Alliance; with Portsmouth Historic Dockyard and our sites across the harbour being a leading visitor attraction. With nearly 1 million visitors a year, the Deputy General Manager (Project Delivery) is integral to how NMRN delivers on site improvements to enhance the visitor experience. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced manager to support the General Manager to deliver projects which meet the needs of our audiences, so that they return again and again.

 We want to delight and inspire our visitors, we want to be inclusive and accessible and ensure our sites are sustainable and you have a key role to play in that. You will understand what is important to visitors and how to tell a story through physical on site interpretation. Being skilled at influencing, you will also have experience of delivering capital projects, liaising with contractors and managing stakeholder relationships. You will have an eye for detail and a good understanding of project management.

Working closely with the Deputy General Manager (Operations) under the leadership of our General Manager, you will be commercially minded and understand the logistics of on site operations. You will work as part of a team to ensure health and safety is at the forefront of any site improvements.

You will have experience of managing projects, liaising with contractors and influencing projects to achieve them on time and on budget.

You will be an effective communicator with a proven track record of positively influencing colleagues and stakeholders.

You will have a passion for the historic environment and how it supports enhanced visitor satisfaction.
